An option for the user to sort a list alphabetically makes sense. Some lists may be created with a specific ordering in mind (most commonly used are at the top, for example), so it may not be good to force alphabetical ordering.

Adding a quick text based filter may be more efficient than sorting alphabetically because it would remove the need to scroll or change pages to locate the desired entry. At the top of the list, provide a textbox where the user can type a few letters from an account identifier (name, number, etc) and the list is instantly filtered to only records that contain the typed letters.
